Indoor air quality has gained quite a popularity recently. Elevated CO2 concentration level is known to influence our cognition function. In this project we will observe the cognition level of people in different CO2 concentration level environments. The aim is to link variability of different physiological measurements and standard cognitive test results to different CO2 concentration levels.
What you will do
Indoor air quality has gained quite some interest recently since we spend ~90% of our time indoors. Elevated CO2 concentration is known to cause impaired attention, tiredness, drowsiness and headaches. This can affect employee efficiency, student productivity, and well-being at home, work, hospitals, elderly homes, schools and/or childcare facilities.
Within this project we will evaluate the cognition level of participants in relation to the indoor air quality. To investigate this relationship, you should design and set up a data collection protocol. The protocol should include cognitive testing, air quality monitoring and physiological measurements. The goal of the project will be to link variability of the different (physiological) measurements to the exhibited CO2 concentrations.
This thesis research includes the following steps: literature study to obtain an overview of the state-of-the-art on indoor air quality and related health effects, design of the experimental setup, cleaning of data and signal processing, and data analysis to analyze the relation between air quality and cognitive function. Within the project you will be analyzing (physiological and air quality) data. During the project you will interact with different experts on the topic. Finally, you are expected to give a presentation and write a report. Depending on the results a journal publication should be prepared.

experienced scientists on a diverse field of topics related to data science, biomedical engineering and biology. The project will give an inside view on the relationship of indoor air quality and related health effects.
