Senior FPGA Architect

Vacature details

Senior Architect, with opportunity to take a co-founder role in a high-potential start-up

Current digital infrastructure is fundamentally not suitable for creating an integrated network of billions of devices (e.g. IoT, Drones, Robotics, Smart Glasses, Autonomous Vehicles) from thousands of providers.  The result is a growing patchwork of custom partial solutions with varying degrees of interoperability, privacy, and security.  We have developed a flexible software stack that addresses these challenges by leveraging, among other things, open networking specifications and standards, cryptographic and consensus-based identity and credential management systems, as well as complex adaptive systems modeling.  We believe embedding this stack at hardware level will not only bring an unprecedented level of interoperability and security, but also transform how the world thinks about computers and computing.

Role Summary

As Senior Architect, you will drive the research and development of next-generation hardware-based cybersecurity. You will be responsible for ensuring electronic systems integrity, authenticity, and trust. In addition to owning FPGA prototyping processes, you will build a small team of motivated engineers to work on projects of international significance.

  • Design and execute experiments, help communicate results to other departments and management
  • Support integration and test of the FPGA on the target hardware platform
  • Simulate the FPGA design to verify functionality and performance
  • Produce design documentation including requirements documents, specifications, interface control documents, and design review material
  • Prepare and present design reviews at various phases of the design lifecycle
  • Supervise technical performances, cost, and schedule of the solution

The ideal candidate is highly motivated with a wide variety of skills, insatiable curiosity, enthusiasm, and the ability to dig deep on challenging technical problems. A background in embedded networking/forwarding or platform software with experience driving the architecture of ASIC/FPGAs and systems is a must.  Bring your expert level experience with all aspects of system software design, networking protocols, multi-processor systems, and hardware offloading.

Required Skills

  • Experience working with aerial drones, connected cameras, and leading IoT platforms
  • Expert level knowledge of networking equipment & architectures – system hardware, CPUs, ASIC/FPGAs, etc.
  • Expert level knowledge of networking protocols – mobile, routing, transport layer, SSL/TLS, etc.
  • Experience using development environments – e.g. Altera Quartus II, Mentor ModelSim, MicroSemi Libero IDE, Microsemi Libero SoC, Xilinx Vivado
  • Designing and understanding HW offload including feasibility and tradeoffs
  • ASIC/FPGA design and architecture
  • Designing system software for enterprise networking equipment
  • Strong coding skills including C/C++, bash, python, Java, etc.
  • Industry standard best practices for design, implementation, verification, testing, documentation, deployment, and debug
  • Familiarity with x86, MIPS and ARM architectures
  • Demonstrated technical leadership
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience
